Tick
Sotos, Peter
New 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall Paperback First Edition Dangerous, fresh and insightful book in the age when we are literally drowning in the sea of so-called "subversive" literature. Just when you thought that Dennis Cooper is the one and only contemporary writer exploring the legacy of dark and shining sickening beauty (de Sade, Jean Genet), Peter Sotos (also known for his proto-industrial band Whitehouse) is here to prove you wrong with his trance-inducing set of books devoted to deviation and filth. The puzzle that Sotos is playing with consists of the media-hype surrounding sexuality and the hidden deviant thoughts of an individual, but Sotos is far from being a suggestive narrator and is simply acting as your guide through the depths of human humiliation leaving all the morals and conclusions up to you. Cold, rude, distanced and emotionally unattached, "Tick" is not meant to make you smile. Written in unique "documentary prose" style, it will grab you by the ears and won't let you relax. This is a book you would definitely never want to buy for any of your friends, but on the other hand, you will enjoy staying awake late at night reading it and feeling its intense hold long after putting it aside. Terryfing and dazzling. Peter Sotos (born 1960?) is a Chicago-born writer who has contributed an unprecedented examination of the peculiar motivations of sadistic sexual criminals. His works are often cited as conveying an uncanny understanding of myriad aspects of pornography. Most of his writings have focused on sexually violent pornography, particularly of that involving children. His writings are also considered by many to be social criticism often commenting on the hypocritical way media handles these issues.

Probably Did it Herself [Candy]
Johns, Dr. L. (Terry Southern & Mason Hoffenberg)
New 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall Paperback First Thus Early pirated edition of the erotic novel Candy by "Maxwell Kenton" (Terry Southern & Mason Hoffenberg). Probably early 1960s, pre-dating the books first official publication in the U.S.A. and U.K. The book made Southern a world famous, sought after author. Candy is essentially a Beat lampoon of family values and high literary correctness; Voltaire’s Candide re-written for the sexual revolution. Southern and Hoffenberg’s eponymous heroine is a wide-eyed sexual patsy who leaves home only to suffer a series of sexual degradations that she bears with the same naïve stoicism of her high literary counterpart. When the Olympia Press published the novel in 1958 it became an instant succès de scandale. Banned in France but pirated all over the world due to a copyright oversight on Girodias’ part the novel brought Southern a worldwide readership.
