National literacy mission was established to promote literacy among the illiterates in the age group of 15-35 by giving priority to SC, ST and women. In view of importance of health is human capital formation, health knowledge was provided to the target along with literacy. Women play a key role in promotion of health of the family. Keeping this in view an investigation was made to know the extent of health consciousness gained by the women due to their participation in adult education programme and factors associated for the same. The present book consists of five chapters. The chapter I introduction deals with importance accorded to the health in National Literacy Mission, reviews the studies conducted in the area of health knowledge objectives of the study methodology. The extent of health consciousness processed by the women and the less, moderate and more knowledgeable health items are presented in the chapter 2. The chapter 3 presents the association between the health consciousness and personal characteristics of the women. The influence of the personnel characteristics of the women on the health consciousness is presented in the chapter 4. The chapter 5 constitutes the summary and conclusion chapter of the book.
