Good 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall No Jacket Hard Cover First Edition Carlo Rosselli (1899-1937) was a brilliant and charismatic Italian intellectual, born into a wealthy Jewish family, who gave up a promising career as a professor of political economics, in order to devote his considerable fortune and life to fighting fascism. After being imprisoned for his subversive activities, he escaped to Paris, and thence to Barcelona, where he commanded an armed column of volunteers in defense of the Republic in the Spanish Civil War. When Italian fascists learned of his plot to assassinate Mussolini, he was assassinated with his brother, the noted historian Nello Rosselli, on a country road in Normandy. Harvard has just published a new biography of Rosselli, which they say is the first biography in English, an odd claim considering the author Salvemini was a professor at Harvard. Some wear to spine ends.
