Dead Brides: Vampire Tales
Poe, Edgar Allan
New 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall Paperback First Thus A unique collection bringing together five of Poe's most outstanding short stories which in many ways form the nucleus of his prose work: Berenice, Morella, Ligeia, The Fall of the House of Usher, and The Oval Portrait. Written between 1835 and 1842, these classic tales investigate the vampiric nature of human relationships, including love and lust, both 'normal' and incestuous. Vampirism, with its terrible energy exchanges and lesions, is ultimately Poe’s analogy for a love that persists beyond the grave - an all-consuming passion that knows no peace until a reconciliation is effected. Illustrated by classic lithographs from Odilon Redon’s series A Edgar Poe of 1882. Redon was compelled to reproduce the most insane images from his unconscious through the inspiration of Baudelaire, Huysmans, and other ‘dangerous’ writers of his age. Includes a preface by award-winning poet and novelist Jeremy Reed.
