A man's past misdeeds com e to light and almost ruin his future. To shield his sweetheart from being prosecuted as a thief (she impulsively "borrows" her hostess's pearls) the hero takes the blame. Years later, a famous artist under a different name, he falls in love. His past is resurrected, but he can't clear his name because the girl he protected then is now the stepmother of the girl he wants to marry. Impulsively, he marries Poppy, his beautiful model. Poppy attempts to straighten the mess out, because she loves the hero enough to want to see him happy, but he refuses to divorce her even after she has cleared his name. So, Poppy jumps off a cliff and dies, freeing her husbant to marry the woman he really loves.
