Début as baritone, Newcastle upon Tyne 1838 in Bishop's Guy Mannering, then studied in Paris and Milan, singing as ten. at La Scala 1846 (Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor) and London 1846. First sang in oratorio, Norwich Festival 1848 and thereafter appeared more often on concert-platform than in opera, but sang title-role in first performance in English of Faust. Particularly associated with Handel Festivals. Rebound in strong library binding.

First edition. No printing date, but catalogue of Stanley Paul's Books dated 1911 incorporated. Biography of Charlotte, Princess of Wales (1796 - 1817). Interesting account of the happ enings of the period. The book is ex-library, and in poor condition, splits to hinges (internal and external), painted library classification on spine, loose pages, library name punched through pages, etc, but still scarce

First edition. A very good book without dust jacket. Spine slightly sunned, end plates darkened.
