The Story of Cairo.
Lane-Poole, Stanley
First Edition 340pp. Lovely copy. Top edge gilt, others uncut. The pretty grey cloth cover has an ornate-orientalist gilt text box at the top of the cover saying 'Mediaeval Towns' then it says 'Cairo' again in pretty ornamented script at the bottom. And again the spine is ornately decorated. 32 illustrations, comprising maps, plans and reproductions of engravings. Some small pencil underlinings in the text. Some brown ghosting on endpapers. And a bonus piece of ephemera is the baggage label for the owner (whose neat signature is on the f.e.p.) who was travelling to the Holy Land on Cook's Grand Cruise by the S.S. Furst Bismarck, leaving Marseilles April 1st 1904 and heading to the World's Sunday School Convention at Jerusalem. Some light speckling to fore-edge. Spine slightly rolled and corners a bit bent. Good plus.

The Thousand and One Nights, commonly called in England , The Arabian nights' Entertainments. A New Translation from the Arabic with Copius Notes.
Lane, Edward William (translated) and Edward Stanley Poole (edited) HARVEY, William (Illustrated)
a new edition. 3 volumes. In the original dark green peebled cloth with gilt lettering and decoration. A fine set with publisher's catalogues at the rear of each volume. If I'm being picky, then there is minor bumping and rubbing to the gilt at the head and tail of the spines. A lovely clean set. Chiswick Shop
