Fannie Lou Hammer
Jordan, June
Very Good Ex-Library Fannie Lou Hammer fights, and she works. When she was six, she had to pick thirty pounds of cotton before she could get a can a sardines, a quarter pound of cheese, and a ginger bread cookie. In 1962, most people in Mississippi were afraid to vote. But Fannie was not. She actually helped people get registered. She was persecuted for beliefs. Her husband lost his house and his job. She was beaten for her beliefs. After these experiences, she went to Washington to tell others her story. People asked her throughout the country what they could do. She said she wanted a farm cooperative, showing people how to own their own labor. A true civil rights leader. This book is well illustrated and great for youn people. 6/10/2003 8:36:23 PM 4/3/2004 12:25:21 PM 1
