Novel Library volume 24. ~ Uncommon & charming edition of Austen's classic novel. It was the first of her novels to be completed for publication, but was not finally on sale to the public until 1817. in the simplest of terms it is a parody of the Gothic Novel.

First Edition Written in around 1805 and first published in 1871, Lady Susan was first published from the original manuscript by the Clarendon Press in 1925. Light grey cloth spine with blue-grey boards. Clean save for a small smudge at the base of the spine and some yellowing at the head of the front board and to the very tip of the back. The Chawton Edition 326, ix, 337pp.; 419, 426pp.; 260, 255pp. Bayntun Riviere binding: a cherry-red half calf with red cloth boards and a gilt top edge and gilt lettering and stamping on spine. The three spines have uniformly faded to a pretty salmon-pink. Minor scuffing to spines showing a darker red beneath, some ghosting on marbled endpapers, where a previous owner has written 'Dec 1949' in pencil on the f.e.p., otherwise 3 lovely volumes, very clean and bright inside.
