Second edition (the first was produced in 1881). A fair to good book (generally covers a little dirty, wear to corners, spine a little loose). But an uncommon addition for collectors of Greenaway. There are 24 "children's poems" each illustrated. (1 rhyme+ illustration per right hand page), all left hand pages blank. In addition there is a frontispiece taken from one of the rhymes, and the list of contents is spread over 4 right hand pages, each detailing six rhymes with a miniature of the illustration shown. The poems are by Christopher Boeck, and are in Danish

An Allegorical tale, based upon Chivalric vales the book was part of the Victorian Medieval revival.

First Edition 107pp. Very pretty beige cloth cover, gold text with colour pictures of nursery characters by Kate Greenaway and Beatrix Potter, inter alia - ; pristine, protected with original glassine wrap. The whole covered by a tatty, foxed plain paper wrap. Some foxing to endpapers and to the very fore-edge of the pages. The rear flap of the glassine is creased. Some marking on the facing pages of the colour plates, of which there are 11 (black and white portrait frontispiece). Copiously illustrated throughout with black and white illustrations taken from Warne publications.
