Clovers in Red and raised gi lted leaves. Great Looking book from the angle of the book shelf and the front cover. Very light foxing on inside pages. There won't be many of these left in a few years after the revival of rare book s on the internet. Alcott's famous publication Little Women; or, Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy (1868-69). An autobiographical account of nineteenth-century family life, the book depicts Alcott's development, She is Jo March in her story, and her three sisters are Meg, Beth and Amy. The work was celebrated in the states and established Alcott as a major american woman author. She wrote four books that fol lowed Little Women; Good Wives, this is the sequel to Little Women, then Little Men: Life at Plumfield with Jo's Boys published 1871, Aunt Jo's Scrap Bag in 1872 and 1882 , and finally the book we are selling above "Jo's Boys and How They Turned Out (1886)". Alcott was regarded was regarded as a famous person and woman during the age and her earnings sustained the family. Alcott was born in German town, Pennsylvania. She was brought up in Boston then Concord, Massachusetts. She was part of the Transcendentalist movement during the period. Being part of the transcendalists movement through her p arents influence, Alcott learned from the books of Ralph Waldo Emerson and the naturalist Henry David Thoreau taught her nature and the practical side of applying one education to science. Margaret Fu ller, James Russell Lowell, and Julia Ward were influences in her development. Known as a Women's rights activist of her time, an educational reformist and social activist she would weave her philosop hy into her stories where she could. Corners are slightly rubbed and the spine seem on front outside cover has separated slightly up the seem for about an inch.
