8 volumes. Smart tight contemporary binding in gilt-banded half red morocco, with fairly rubbed marbled boards. All edges gilt. Very small monogram stamped on f.e.p. in each volume. Missing volume 2 of the biography, though perhaps this was never published (see 'Notice' in volume 1 of the biography). Every volume copiously illustrated with steel engravings. A version of Sarah Siddons in Reynolds's painting of her as the Tragic Muse adorns the title page of the Tragedies volume. Perhaps other contemporary personalities are represented elsewhere but I don't recognise them, alas. Smart spines; the fore-edge corner leather has a few losses here and there.
