Originally published in 1989, this volume transports readers to the Amazon rain forest around Manaus, Brazil. The book, in addition to the aforementioned subjects, discusses rain forest destruction, mining, and pollution, and global warming. This edition adds some new information while deleting and rewriting other lines of text effectively. Where standard measurements appear, metric equivalents are given as well. Beyond editorial changes, the text is considerably more readable due to a new font and better organization of paragraphs.
